Becker describió en 1984 un expansor permanente, con dos compartimentos, para evitar su cambio por una prótesis definitiva. El compartimento externo contenía gel de silicona y rodeaba al interno, el cual era hinchado con suero fisiológico; el mecanismo valvular se retiraba en un segundo tiempo, bajo anestesia local, permaneciendo el expansor como una prótesis definitiva.
